On Sunday morning, we had an honest-to-god stager come out to help us get our home ready to sell -- just like you see on HGTV. It was kind of awkward; we'd had company the night before and so the house was pretty messy. She probably thought we were a hopeless case!
We were left with lots of good suggestions for improving the look and feel of our home, though. We were advised to paint the front steps, which look rather moldy at the moment since the last time we painted them we were foolish enough to use white. This time, I'm thinking of doing something like plum or another darker, more striking color. I love me some colors anyway!
She also suggested doing some work on the upstairs bathroom (the downstairs one is brand new, so that saves us some work). I think we'll need to replace some of the bathroom fixtures. The ones we have have been stained by years of hard water and my poor cleaning skills. The "stager" also said the room would look nicer with a proper medicine cabinet in it. I'm thinking of purchasing one that has a mirrored cabinet on one side and decorative shelves on the other side.
The kitchen was our last stop and was also in need of some repairs. My boyfriend already fixed some of the tiles that were broken or cracked (and one was just plain dirty and not coming clean no matter what). Next, we'll add a new set of faucets, and clear some of the clutter off the counter top.
I figure by the time we're done, our house will be in beautiful shape and we won't want to move afterall!
