One of the things I love about the school my children attend is the section of solar panels outside the classrooms. I think it's wonderful that the founders of the school made an effort to be as eco-friendly as possible - and those panels serve as excellent proof that they were willing to do more than just talk about teaching the kids to be responsible citizens of planet earth.
I chose Ridge and Valley because of its educational style - everything the kids do is extremely hands-on, and they have a lot of freedom to work at a pace that suits them. They truly are learning by doing. BUT, another huge component of their program is environmentalism. I'm certainly not perfect when it comes to the three R's (reduce, reuse, and recycle), but I am doing my best, and I'm so glad that my children can go to a school where they are encouraged to do even better.
The kids love the solar panels, and I think they realize early on that their school is different and special because of them! I only wish I had the money to convert our home to solar energy.
