November is National Adoption Awareness Month, and so I've been writing lots of adoption related articles in the past few weeks in an attempt to foster real awareness rather than allowing the propaganda of the adoption industry to spread unchecked.
Anyhow, I decided to do a search for other adoption articles and found several on iContact. Once I skimmed past the animal adoption articles, I found more of the usual -- inaccurate, biased, pro-adoption drivel. There were also quite a few articles written by professional searchers, and I was disappointed to see that they used demeaning terms like "birth parents" and "given up for adoption" rather than opting for more respectful, honest adoption language. Someone who wants to make money working with natural mothers and fathers and their adult children would be wise not to insult them at first contact.
All this proves is that adoption rhetoric is everywhere. It makes me feel even better about my own efforts to provide real adoption education to expectant parents, would-be adopters, and the professionals who work with them
